| | Home > Projects > Manual Development Training Manual for Co-Occurring Mental and Substance-Related Disorders in Adolescents The NeATTC, in partnership with Drexel University, College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry Behavioral Healthcare Education, and Senior Advisor Paula Riggs, M.D., University of Colorado, is developing a 12-hour, two-day curriculum for training participants in initial concepts and skills for working with adolescents having co-occurring mental and substance use disorders. This training curriculum includes: - workbooks for participants;
- detailed trainers manual, including bibliography and resource materials
- CD-ROM with slides and supplemental materials
The training curriculum will contain current information regarding integrated approaches for mental illness and substance abuse disorders, including: - assessment content and process;
- substance use in a developmental context;
- overview of the most common co-occurring mental disorders;
- the role of, and cautions regarding, psychotropic medications;
- family engagement and inclusion strategies;
- strengths-based focus;
- motivational interviewing skills;
- cognitive-behavioral treatment approaches; and
- self-rating exercises for values, knowledge and skills, including other topics for continuing education (including trauma-informed practice, neurological functioning and psychopharmacology).
